			 From the lner notes:
When Elvis first entered a recording studio in 1953, it was to
record two love ballads for his mother, "My Happiness" and "That's
When Your Heartaches Begin"'. The second and third times were to
record ballads too. During his formative years, the great pop
stylists of the 40s and early 50s influenced Elvis. He made no
secret of his admiration for Dean Martin, the Ink Spots, Patti Page
and Kay Starr. In 1956, even as the controversy about his Rock 'n'
Roll gyrating raged around him, Elvis sang ballads like "Love Me
Tender" alongside "Heartbreak Hotel" and "Hound Dog". Early in his
career he once commented to a reporter, "I can't do ballads nearly
as well as I can do the other kind, because I don't have the voice
for it". However, the Elvis love song soon became a cornerstone of
popular music's most enduring career. In 1992, the Estate of Elvis
Presley was presented with 111 gold and platinum disc upgrades by
the RIAA, the largest amount ever awarded to a single artist or
group. Many of these are for his greatest ballads and the songs an
this album provide a befitting testament to the greatest popular
			recording artist of all time.
